At this year's E for All expo, we happened upon Kontrol Freek's booth showing off a product called the 'Speed Freek'. At first glance it looks like a controller add-on more geared towards disabled video game players.

As we talked to the representative, we learned that it's a controller add-on geared towards the hardcore racer. Since the majority of the controls in driving games are generally side-to-side, some players may find their thumb falling out of the little indention of the 360's thumb-stick. What the Speed Freek does is prevent slippage while also allowing finer detailed side-to-side control without accidentally clicking the thumb-stick, possibly activating a different control in the game.

I'm not much a fan of the racing genre, but I did find a bit of difference. Other MG staffers found an improvement in control, particularly in games like Forza Motorsport where precise motion is key.

Recommendations of the Speed Freek are relatively conditional. If you're a video game racing freak, you'll find this little thing a big help, and for around 10 bucks American for two it won't set you back near as much as a set of pedals and a wheel.
