Media Geeks: Terminal, The
Terminal, The
The DVD Geek     06/27/2004
Under the direction of Speilberg, the movie tells the story of Viktor Navoroski. The tale is loosely based on the life of Merhan Karimi Nasseri, still living in Charles de Gaulle Airport. The movie is told in a touching, funny, heartfelt way, just hoping everything turns out okay. Tom Hanks plays Viktor, a man who gets stuck in JFK due to a political coup in his country. Hanks gives a great performances in all aspects of the character's ordeals. During one of many of Viktor's days, he meets up with a flight attendant named Amelia, played by Catherine Zeta-Jones. She too makes a good addition to the cast & story, without taking too much from Hank's Viktor. Lastly, is the man in charge of keeping Viktor out, Mr.Dixon, the Home Security chief of the airport, played by Stanley Tucci. With a great cast of supporting characters with their own sub-plots, the movie has plenty of strength to stand on it's own.

One thing that should be noted, is the amount of work Dreamworks put into the set design. Due to a post-9/11 world, there would be no way JFK would be open to a movie being filmed in it's nooks & crannies. So they completely built their own international airport terminal in a massive hanger in Palmdale,CA (since a soundstage would be too small). The three story terminal looks very well designed & looks as if it could be a real terminal somewhere.

Although the movie won't win any major awards, the film itself is an enjoyable movie to see. If you've seen all the big blockbuster films of the summer & looking for a movie to see, see The Terminal.
