Last year this, StarWars Geek, Queen Geek, & I found out about this new series on Showtime called DEAD LIKE ME. The poster of this dark grim reaper torso, with a pink bubblegum bubble, could help but tease us & wonder what this series was about. After the first few episodes, you can't help but really like this series. Its a dark comedy that revolves mostly around the life of Georgia "George" Lass, played by Ellen Muth, a girl recently killed by debris from the Mir space station. Creator of this great series is Bryan Fuller, a writer of many StarTrek:Voyager episodes & a handful of StarTrek:DS9 episodes, as well as producer for a final year of StarTrek:Voyager. The series has won some lesser known awards, including Saturn Awards' Best Actress in a Television Series (Ellen Muth) & Best Syndicated/Cable Television Series, in 2004.

Not surprisingly, the video & audio quality are great. Presented in letterbox format, the picture is clean & crisp. No visible artifacts. As for the sound, the it's presented in 5.1, but the surround aspect is mildly used.

Now, the Extras. Upon reading the special features listed on the box, I could wait to check them out. Putting in the first disc, you find whole mess of things. A decently produced featurette, a photo gallery cleverly done as newspaper stories, a large amount of deleted scenes, & audio commentary by the cast. However, all this is on first disc, including the commentary. Although the cast commentary is great & interesting to listen to, as a fan of the show, it would've been great to hear commentary on every episode. But overall, the series was given a good Extras treatment.

With the 2nd season around the bend (July 25th), I'd highly suggest checking this 13 episode season out before the next season starts up again.
