Media Geeks: Finding NemoFinding Nemo Except for just recently the prospect of a movie about talking fish either conjured images of The Little Mermaid or the much earlier animated/live action Incredible Mr. Limpet. Then in the summer of 2003 Disney's strike out computer animation studios struck gold with Finding Nemo.
Nemo's story reeked of after-school special, but only if you sat and thought about it. It was presented in a extremely colorful, highly unpredictable and immense world under the water. Marlin (Albert Brooks), an overprotective father clownfish loses his mate and all but one of several hundred eggs in an attack by a barracuda in the first few minutes of the movie. Marlin swears to protect his only son, Nemo (Alexander Gould) from any and all dangers from then on. As Nemo grows he begins to want more, to see life outside of his immediate home. After a confrontation with Marlin, leaving them both fuming at each other, Nemo is captured by a human diver which begins the search. Marlin and Nemo both meet a slew of hilarious bit characters, each with their own unique personalities that can keep even the biggest wet-blanket viewer smiling. Dory, voiced by Ellen Degeneres, is a Royal Blue Tang cursed with serious short term memory but blessed with an unending optimism and childlike charm that gives Marlin continual confidence boosts, if not a headache. Just keep swimming, just keep swimming
